Nicash4 in Bergen County, New Jersey said: Alright guys, need some further advice on what to do. I've now taken the test 4 times. I've now spend upwards of $1,300 on testing materials; ASWB practice tests, study books, flash cards.
I most recently bought some material from socialworkexams.com and I even purchased the master's level study guide from TDC. I failed by 5 this go around and I don't know what it is. I have used tutors, my friends help me study, I listen to podcasts. I have even gone to therapy to see if maybe it's exam anxiety. Is it wrong that I think it's Pearson? I know it sounds crazy, but anyone else struggling like this. I'm sorry you failed your exam.
I am scheduled to take mine again on the 13th. I purchased the TDC study guide prep and I hope I didn't spend all that money and it not help me. Laura in New Baltimore, Michigan said: I appealed and it took them almost 3 months to notify me that I can take it sooner!
They are in NO hurry to do anything. They all have their 'grandfathered' 'licenses'. The 'board' what a joke. I have a friend who appealed the exam in Massachusetts and they got back to him the NEXT day and he re-took the exam within the following week and passed. I suppose everyone has different experiences with ASWB. Sorry you had to wait so long to retake the exam; thats pretty terrible on their part.
The first time I took the exam I failed by 1 test question.one freaking question. I was able to have the 90 days waived because I did have a job offer (the job jeopardy ASWB and/or job security ASWB requires) except I lost that job because I failed to second time. You can also challenge your test scores, which I did for $25 and I still failed by the 5. This process makes me not want to pursue social work anymore. I am beyond discouraged. Then on top of that apparently I no longer have a valid approval for the exam. Who knew you only got a year to test in NJ.
I have to reapply to the state of NJ to be approved to sit for the exam. I'm beyond over this.
I feel your pain. When I failed for the 3rd time, lost my job because I failed and lost a GREAT job opportunity to triple my income because of that damn exam, I've not been able to get myself to study in the last 8months. That test has beaten me down and stripped me of my worth and competence. I know I have to pick up the books again, but this exam and the board have crushed my spirit. We need to do our best to not allow this to define us and beat this damn thing and laugh I the face of that damn board who make the exam nearly impossible. Evan Baker in Kingston, New York said: We need 20 affidavits for a class action suit against the ASWB and Pearson. Please explain how many points you missed by, how many times you took the test and what race and gender you are.
Notarize and Mail to Evan Baker 73 route 55 Napanoch, Ny 12458. If you have problems passing, why blame the test? The majority pass the test on the first attempt. There has to be a standard competency level to maintain the professional standards. Is it arbitrary and unfair?
Perhaps, but the belief that life is fair is illogical and a common cognitive distortion. Nicash4 in Bergen County, New Jersey said: Alright guys, need some further advice on what to do. I know it sounds crazy, but anyone else struggling like this. My advice: 'Pray very hard, it is a very, very tricky exam, it is by the grace of God that I was able to pass on my first try. For God sake stop it!!
Everyone quit calling people names and slamming them when their down. If you passed, wonderful.
If you didn't, lets help one another. Dear God, if you foul mouthed passing social workers are practicing, God help your clients! No one on here is lazy, unwilling to study or scheming. We simple don't understand why it's so hard when we have done so well in school, are we missing something? We are, we are trying to figure that out. Pearson is KNOWN for failing and ripping off test takers.
Watch the news it's all over it. I have never been a good test taker and it's ruining my career and many others.
We'll figure it out. LizzyBIrd in Attica, Michigan said: For God sake stop it!!

I was reading some of the earlier comments and my god. I would not want any of those people to be my social worker, or work with my clients. I realized that I've now spent over $1,600. And that does not make me lazy or anything like that. That shows that I'm legit trying my hardest to practice something I truly love. Thank you for defending all of us on here who are trying.
As for Pearson, it's not only ASWB exams they are screwing people over with but also teaching exams. I know someone who is in a battle with Pearson over her failed scored. After she called several times they told her straight out; once a person fails their (social security number) is red flagged. It's all about how much money they can get out of you. I challenged my test scores through ASWB, since I recently failed by 5 test questions and I still failed.

They don't go over the tests by hand it's run the same way as if you're taking the test again. I've never been a strong test taker and I feel much better knowing that I have people like myself to rely on in my times of struggle. Evan Baker in Middletown, New York said: Look at fair test PEARSON Vue history. We are all being duped. I hate to say it. I passed without much study.
By ethical, evidenced based practice daily. Correct answers on the test stand out when practiced daily. For each question, there is only one best answer. The questions are written by social workers. Each question is field tested before inclusion in tests. Pearson simply administers the test. Test anxiety is real; there are EBP ways to manage the anxiety.
Blaming Pearson is not one of those. No one here is my client but all want to be a 'colleague.' I believe to protect the profession and the client, social workers need to hold each other accountable to the highest standards. So my comments would be different to a client, but I still would not lie or provide false hope. That is unethical. Ozark LCSW in Kansas, Missouri said: I would not want to refer somone to a therapist who cannot pass the competency exam.
What Is Clinical Study
Those of my graduating cohort who complained the loudest about how unfair grading was in school and/or chose the easiest options are also those who have not passed the exam. Do you really think passing an exam makes you more competent?
I'm curious.I am working on a temp license and passing this test isn't going to make me a better social worker. I graduated my Master's with a 3.9 GPA and I worked hard to get through school only to fail this exam not once but twice. I studied for about 3 months the second time I took it and missed more than the first.
Laura in New Baltimore, Michigan said: CMHD- you are so wrong. Check your stats. Oh yah, that's right- they don't DISCLOSED them! MOST pass it on the THIRD or FOURTH time. I said about 70% pass on the first time.I was off. This is what I found but it was for 2014. Again, sorry.
If you're trying to pass, good luck. I am getting ready to test again.
